Joy for the Holidays (part 2)
3 Secrets to a Joyful Family Event
Swami Sadashiva Tirtha
Today I am going to share 3 secrets to a happy holiday even if others seem to want to make you miserable.
1. Ask yourself, ‘How do I want to feel at the gathering?’ If we can visualize ourselves being happy, doing things that make us happy and feel that happiness before we he’d to the party, it is much easier to remember to do those things when we are there.
Eg., talk with your grandma, go for a walk, play with a dog, share good things happening in your career.
Reason: Our mind leads our emotions.
2. Eat healthy foods at the dinner and feel better. Are the hosts are not offering your healthful needs (eg, organic, vegetarian, vegan)? If not, bring your own. Taking control of your health and emotions will change the energy at the party and you will feel the energy of being in charge of your life even around others.
3. When all else fails, create a holiday party with like-minded friends (some call this their spiritual family). If family situations have become all-out yelling or misery, then make a change
for your happiness. Life is too short; book a travel vacation and help a village in another country, work in a soup kitchen; help those less fortunate than yourself; step into a purpose bigger than yourself and connect with the true spirit of the season. Who knows, it may even shift your familys’ hearts too. Whatever you choose, I wish you the most blessed, joyful holiday season and may your dreams come true in 2018.
