Scott Harper Wilson grew up in North County of San Diego. An avid surfer, when not riding waves, Scott was drawing waves. His love and inherited abilities to draw lead him into a lifelong career in the apparel industry. His love for the ocean has made him lifelong advocate for the environment and sustainability.

With over 30 years in the apparel industry, Scott has done it all. In the 80’s Scott took surf and beachwear to the inner mountain west with Expressions; a small chain of retail stores in Utah and Idaho. In 1992 Scott went from retailer to manufacture with the opening of Tour Image, Inc, a design and manufacturing facility in north county of San Diego. Specializing in golf and ready to wear clothing, Tour Image quickly became a leading provider to the golf and Parks and Attraction industries. In 2000 Tour Image won Vendor of the Year from Disney Worldwide Attractions for shipping one year without a single reject or return. In 2003 Tour Image won the International Parks and Attractions Associations Design of the year for a t-shirt design created for LEGOLAND World Parks.

From 2012 to 2017 Scott was Vice President of JS Apparel, a knitwear specialist located in Carson, CA. As VP, Scott has taken JS Apparel from a “t-shirt” manufacture to one to leading provider of fashion knit with sales of over 100 million dollars a year. An advocate for sustainable ethical manufacturing, Scott does a lot of public speaking on the subject, and serve on the board of several related organizations including the advisory board of Cal Poly of Pomona. Scott is always working on ways to make the industry more sustainable, specifically reducing energy and water consumption associated with current printing and dyeing procedures.

“Our business models allow us to literally do it all,” Wilson said. “We can design the product, assemble the product, dye it and place any images or embroidery. And, we’ve developed a partnership with Laguna Fabrics, where we source our organic knits.”

Built with the organic fabrics supplied by Laguna, the Ustrive one-size-fits-all masks are dyed using only four ingredients, including salt, vinegar, baking soda and organic dyes. “Ours is the only ‘organic dyed’ mask available, period,” Wilson said. “It is the only mask in the USA that can legally claim it’s organically dyed with no harmful, toxic chemicals touching your face or polluting the planet.”

With the supply and production infrastructure already in place, the creation of the mask was the same for any other product created by UStrive, though this item was pushed through on a fast track. With UStrive already operating in accordance with the world’s two leading organic textile standards – the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and the Textile Exchange’s Organic Content Standard (OCS) – the decision to create an organically-sourced mask was an easy one.
