Emotional Release With Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release not only treats the physical components of trauma and injury, it also can unlock and release stored emotional aspects of trauma which contribute to pain.

When we encounter traumatic or dangerous events, we either stay and fight or we run to save our lives as a defense mechanism. Most people are familiar with this fight/flight response. However, there is a third option called the ‘freeze’ response. Please refer to Waking the Tiger: Healing Trauma, book by Peter A. Levine.

When we freeze, the emotional and physical components of the traumatic event are stored on a cellular level. During a myofascial release treatment (MFR) it is not uncommon for these emotions, events and memories to come to the surface and be released allowing people to understand why they have certain patterns in life. This, in turn, allows for closure to the traumatic experience.

Myofascial Release therapy is one of the most effective forms of therapy available for the evaluation and treatment of pain. It is a gentle, safe whole body, hands – on treatment which consistently restores movement and function. MFR has been helping people for over 40 years and is now becoming recognized as an integral part of the mainstream medical model.

MFR therapists apply gentle and sustained elongation or compression in the areas of tightness or pain, releasing the fascia and freeing up the spaces in between the joints, muscles, bones, nerves and blood vessels. The treatment realigns the body, restores fluidity, elongates elastin and collagen fibers and results in increased flexibility, strength and function.

For over 25 years Sepi Aeen, MPT, founder of From The Heart Physical Therapy, has worked in the field of physical therapy. She found her passion in patient care through the field of Myofascial Release therapy developed by John F. Barnes. Through this state of the art therapy, which utilizes the mind and body to achieve the ultimate healing, she has witnessed her patients find the missing-link to a functional and pain free life.
